What to expect?
If you are keen to get back into cycling but lack mobility or have a disability, then Graham or one of the team at G-Whizz can be your tandem cycling partner.
Depending on your needs, there are two types of tandem cycles to choose from: the standard where you sit on the back seat and pedal within your abilities, or a bike with a semi-recumbent seat at the front for those who cannot manage the standard seat or find it too uncomfortable. On both bikes, the lead rider (pilot) steers and has control of the bike so you don’t need to navigate or know the rules of the road.
Graham will chat with you about your needs and abilities, and what length of rides you are interested in – routes will be chosen for their safety as well as the scenery. Wear warm, comfortable clothes and sturdy shoes, and bring a bottle of water. If you have a cycling helmet, bring that, but if not then Graham has a few different sizes to select from.
If the weather is inclement, the team will discuss with you about rescheduling.
In order to take part, you will need to make your own way to Sawtry as G-Whizz can’t come to you (the bikes are not easy to transport).
Graham and the team are DBS checked, insured and very experienced cyclists who would be delighted to share their passion for cycling with you!
Contact information is available on their website. Let Graham know what cycling experience you have had (or not), and what limitations you have.
You can contact G-Whizz yourself, or on behalf of a loved one or friend (with their permission). Professionals can refer clients.
Graham is keen to get more people to be ‘pilots’ – experienced cyclists who can steer and take the lead, giving rides to people with various disabilities. Please contact him if you are interested.
Taking part in the rides is free.
If you want to see more photos, videos, and route maps, click on G-Whizz Facebook button in the Contact section above.
Cyclists are expected to pay for their own refreshments if a ride includes a café or coffee stop.
