The HackSpace

Back to Activities
The HackSpace provides access to specialist tooling & machinery, collaborative workshops and network facilities for you to learn new skills, hone ones you have, learn from and teach your peers. There’s also a cafe on site.

This activity is good for wellbeing because

  • You can meet new people – like-minded ones or with totally different interests who you might not otherwise.
  • Getting stuck into a project is a great way to shift your focus away from daily stresses and unwind.
  • You can get a great sense of satisfaction in learning and finishing a project.

Who is The HackSpace for?

Everybody! There are no entry requirements and no need to have any previous experience, in anything! Simply come and learn, create and discover where the world of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics [STEAM] can take you.

The HackSpace provides facilities that are often too specialised and inaccessible to those outside of industry. As a member you will have access to:

  • 3D printers
  • Manual milling machines & lathes for metal and woodwork
  • Professional laser cutters
  • A plethora of hand & power tools
  • Electronics workstations – soldering irons, testing equipment and components
  • Workbenches equipped with vices and clamping equipment
  • Virtual and physical programming environments
  • Sewing machines & textiles

The HackSpace will provide more than just equipment, they also host an array of professionally-led workshops that anyone can attend. If you have a skill you’d like to share, please get in touch.

The HackSpace is about open-source learning and is more than happy to host groups that currently have nowhere to meet.

There is also an on-site vegan cafe, check out their menu and opening times.

Some workshops are free, contact The HackSpace for more info.

Things that incur a fee include:

  • Monthly membership to use the space and tools
  • Co-working fee for professionals who want a business space
  • Some workshops
  • The cafe

The HackSpace can be a little tricky to find. The photos below show the entrance to the Peartree Business Park. The HackSpace is in Unit B: make an immediate right after the entrance (2nd photo), and there are lots of dedicated parking spaces at the end of the carpark, opposite The HackSpace.
